It's understandable that you might feel scared sometimes and think you see something like a monster, especially when it's nighttime and the lights are out. In the dark, even just a jacket on the back of a chair can look scary!

But as real as they may seem sometimes, the truth is that there is no such thing as monsters.

It's okay if that's hard to believe, since strange shapes at night or the dark space under the bed can be very mysterious and cause your imagination to run away with ideas. Even if you do understand that monsters aren't real, you might still be scared and that's okay too!

The good news is that it's easy to keep your fear of monsters under control! Sleeping with a small light or keeping a flashlight next to the bed will help keep those monsters at bay. You can also ask a grown-up to help you make a special No-Monster Spray. -- If you think you see a monster, you can spray the area around you and rest peacefully knowing that nothing will come near!

Monster Mash

Another thing that can help your fear of monsters is pretending to be the monster you're scared of! It might sound silly, but you should give it a try!Put on a mask, wear a strange outfit, pretend you have a broom for an arm dress up however you think a scary monster might look. See what it feels like to be this monster! Try watching your favorite TV show as the monster, or putting away your toys. After a little while, do you feel like there might just be a happy kid at the heart of every monster, and that maybe they aren't so scary after all??
