Soap sculptures!
With just some soap flakes and a little bit of imagination, you can make your very own Soap Sculptures at home!
Pour some soap flakes into a bowl, and slowly add water until the flakes reach a dough-like consistency. About one-half cup of cold water for every four cups of soap flakes is a good approximation.
Lay some wax paper down on your table, and then mold the doughy soap flakes into whatever shapes your heart desires! You can make triangles and circles, flowers, hearts, letters, and more!
If you want, you can also add a drop of food coloring to the flakes to give them a color, or some scented oils to give them a special smell! When you’re done molding them, leave them on the wax paper to dry overnight or put them in the fridge to harden.
Don’t forget to make a few extras to give as gifts to your friends and family!!
Soap makes things clean because the little particles which make it up stick to dirt, but not to water -- when you rub your dirty hands with soap, the soap latches on to the dirt and the water washes them away together!
The materials that make up soap include some kind of a fat or oil plus a special substance called “lye.” Like most things, soap gets its taste from the things it’s made of! In this case, it’s the combination of fats or oils with lye. So, even though fats or oils like olive oil might taste okay in other forms, when they’re mixed with lye to make soap, they end up better suited for washing our hands than for an afternoon snack!
