Why do princesses go to balls? |

Have a Ball!
Pretend you are hosting your own ball! To begin, sketch a picture of what you will wear to the big event--a dress if you are a queen or princess, and a suit or royal outfit if you’re a king or prince.
Who will you invite to the ball? Make a guest list, either by writing the names of your friends and family or by drawing their pictures.
What kind of music will you play at the event? Will you have musicians playing live, or will you have a DJ (for a modern take on a ball)?
Will you serve food at the ball? If so, what do you think your guests will enjoy eating?
Time for the ball! Use your imagination and bring your event to life!
It’s fun to imagine going to a ball—putting on a glamorous gown and a sparkling tiara, then dancing the night away! In the fairy tales we read, it’s not unusual for a princess to dress up and attend a ball. Sometimes there’s even room for a little magic...
If you’ve ever dressed up for a dance or a special party, you’ve gotten a taste of what it’s like to prepare for a ball. In fact, people host balls for the same reason they plan parties and gatherings: to get friends together for an evening of fun and enchantment!
In the 1700s and 1800s, balls were a great place to spend time with friends, celebrate music and dance, and sometimes even meet the person you were going to marry! Why wouldn’t a princess want to wear the dress of her dreams and spend an evening dancing with friends old and new at such an exciting event?
In fairy tales, sometimes members of royal families host balls, such as the prince in Cinderella. In fact, part of what makes the story of Cinderella so special is the fact that she is not a princess when she goes to the ball. But it is at the ball where the prince fall in love with her, and she gets to become a princess when she marries him!
Let’s not forget about magic! Not only are balls events that are fancy and magical, but in some fairy tales, a little bit of magic helps the characters on the evening of the ball. For example, a fairy godmother helps Cinderella get to the ball in a beautiful dress by way of a pumpkin coach.
Sounds like a ball!
