Reflections on reflexes
Just like a sneeze is your body’s way of getting something bothersome out of your nose, a cough is your body’s way of trying to get something irritating out of your throat or your lungs! Things that can bother your airways and lungs and make you cough include pollution, smoke, pollen, dust, and more.
Another common irritant that causes coughing is mucus, which is why you often cough when you’re sick with something like a cold. Sometimes, coughing can also be a symptom of long-term conditions like asthma or certain allergies.
Depending on the reason for your cough, certain medicines might be available or necessary to help you treat your condition and make you feel better. Talk to your parents and doctor, and feel better soon!
