Why do grown-ups use deodorant? |
Have you ever noticed what your body tends to do on a really hot day? – It sweats. Sweat is your body’s natural way of helping you to cool down. Unfortunately, sweat can also some times be a little stinky when it mixes with bacteria that live naturally on your skin.
As you get older, you tend to sweat more than when you’re a kid and so grown-ups and older kids often use deodorant or antiperspirant to help them stay smelling nice! These special products are usually applied under the arms, since that’s generally a pretty sweaty spot. Deodorant usually has a nice smell, so it lessens bad smells by helping to cover them up. Antiperspirants work by helping someone who is wearing them to sweat less – they block some or all of the sweat from being released so that there is less smell.
Young kids don’t usually need to use a deodorant or an antiperspirant until they get a bit older. For most kids, taking regular baths and always wearing clean clothes is enough to help them smell like roses!
Work up a sweat!
Doing physical activity that makes you work up a sweat helps keep your body fit and strong. Plus, it can be a lot of fun!
What are some of your favorite ways to break a sweat?
Maybe you like playing soccer or jumping rope! Riding a bicycle or tricycle, roller-skating, and even swimming can help get your body pumping and sweating, too!
