Buzz-Talk!
Just like some bees make a buzzing sound when they beat their wings, so do some other insects! Can you name any other buzzing bugs? Flies and beetles are both good examples.
Do your best impression of a buzzing bee! Are you buzzing from your wings, your breathing, or you collection of pollen??
Buzz-buzz-buzz! Why do bees buzz? Is it their way of talking to each other, or is because they’re so excited about making honey??
Depending on the type of bee, the buzzing is for one of a few different reasons. Many bees buzz because it’s the sound of their wings vibrating really quickly as they fly. Sometimes the buzzing sound is also made by the bee’s breathing – bees get air through special little openings on their bodies which can cause a buzzing as the air makes it way through the body.
For some other types of bees, a buzzing sound is made when they visit a flower and shake their bodies in a certain way to get the pollen off of the flower – the shake-shake-shake makes them buzz-buzz-buzz!
