When a person does not have enough water in the body, he or she may become dehydrated. Dehydration can cause a person to become tired, have headaches, or even find it more difficult to concentrate. It’s a good thing we can make healthy choices and replenish our body’s water supply by drinking plenty of fluids!
After you exercise, does your throat feel dry? Perhaps you are thirsty! You may notice that on hot days, you seem to crave water more than ever. When you exercise or when it’s hot outside, your body sweats, causing you to lose water. You also lose water when you go to the bathroom.
The thirsty feeling you experience is your body’s way of letting you know that you haven’t been drinking enough water and need to replace the liquid you’ve lost! Sometimes this thirst is mainly felt in the mouth. When your body loses water, you create less saliva, causing your mouth and throat to feel dry.
But your mouth isn’t your only body part that craves water. Your body’s organs and tissues must also have enough water so they can do their jobs. Water helps your body with many important tasks, such as regulating temperature and eliminating waste. Without water, we couldn’t survive!
