Why are cockroaches so dirty?

Cockroaches, sometimes also just called “roaches,” have a reputation for being pretty dirty. This reputation comes from their tendency to live in dirty places, such as garbage piles or sewers. – Because of the dirty places where they often live, cockroaches sometimes spread germs and diseases in their tracks. Yuck!

People like to make sure they don’t have any roaches in their homes because they don’t want any extra germs hanging around. There are thousands of types of roaches in the world but some studies have shown that certain types aren’t necessarily as dirty as we think! – Just like pigs who roll in the mud, some roaches are reported to be very reliable about cleaning themselves!

However, even if some of them are clean, it’s impossible to know a clean roach from a dirty one, so it’s probably better to avoid them altogether!

Bug out!

What are some other kinds of bugs you've learned about? Are there any other bugs you know of which tend to live in dirty places?? What about bugs that live in very clean places?

Can you guess what one of the favorite foods of a cockroach happens to be?? Glue! Roaches are big fans of glue, such as the stuff that makes envelopes stick closed and the glue that holds books together! -- Ick!
