Who was the first man to walk on the moon?

When you look up in the sky at night, the moon seems like it’s pretty far away, doesn’t it? Well, you’re right -- the moon is very far away! For thousands and thousands of years, there were no men or women who were ever able to travel that far, but in July of 1969 an American named Neil Armstrong became the first ever man to walk on the moon!

After Mr. Armstrong took his famous first steps on the moon, he was joined several minutes later by his fellow astronaut, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, while the third man on their mission, Michael Collins, orbited their spacecraft around the moon and prepared the team for their exciting and victorious return to Earth! Upon taking his first steps onto the moon, Armstrong said the famous words “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

People in the United States and around the world watched the events on TV. – Ask some of the grown-ups you know if they can remember watching it!

Moon walk

Have you ever thought about becoming an astronaut when you grow up?? You've probably heard about how there's no gravity in outer-space, meaning that astronauts sort of “float” or “fly” instead of always being down on the ground!

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to walk without gravity? Do your best impression of how this would look and feel!
