According to Guinness World Records, the most recently recognized Tallest Woman in the world was Sandy Allen of Shelbyville, Indiana. Before she passed away in 2008, Allen’s tallest measured height was 7-feet 7.25-inches tall! Allen grew to be so tall due to a tumor (abnormal growth of tissue) which caused her pituitary gland to produce extra growth hormone.

As of September 2009, Guinness World Records has yet to officially give the title to a new woman, although many say it should go to Yao Defen of China, who suffers from the same condition that Allen had and is believed to be 7-feet 8-inches tall!

The air up there!

Do you know how tall you are? Have a grown-up help you measure your height, and then help you figure out how much bigger than you these really tall women are.

Can you imagine being that many times bigger? What do you think some advantages would be? What about some disadvantages?? It would probably be easier to reach books on the top shelf at the library, but you might accidentally bump your head a lot too!! What about buying clothes – if you were almost eight feet tall, it might be hard to find things that fit!
