In recorded history, the tallest man to ever live was Robert Pershing Wadlow, who was born in Illinois in 1918. Before he passed away in 1940, Mr. Wadlow grew to be 8-feet 11-inches tall

As of September 2009, the tallest man alive is Sultan Kosen of Turkey, who is 8-feet 1-inch tall. Kosen took over the title from Bao Xishun of China, who is 7-feet 9-inches tall. For a time, the title also recently belonged to Leonid Stadnyk of Ukraine who is believed to be 8-feet 5-inches tall, but since Stadnyk chose not to be re-measured according to new rules, the title was given to Xishun and, most recently, to Kosen.

Can you imagine being as big as any of these tall men? They’re probably all taller than most of the doorways in your house!!

Growth Chart Challenge!

Do you know how tall you are?

Lots of kids keep a “growth chart,” where they mark off their height every couple of months to show how much taller they've gotten. If you don't already have one, ask about starting your very own growth chart!

Once you know how tall you are, you can figure out how much taller than you the world's tallest men are. Look up and imagine multiplying yourself that many times! Do you think there are some things that might be hard to do if you were that tall? Do you think there are some things that would be easier to do?
