Who is Robin Hood? |
You may have seen movies or read stories about a hero from England who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. That hero is Robin Hood. While there is no proof that a real Robin Hood ever existed, there are plenty of tales about him!
The stories can be traced at least as far back as the 1300s in Great Britain. For many poor people, the stories of Robin Hood were fun fantasies. Robin Hood was a hero for poor people, bringing them money and fighting against the mean, bad guys who were in charge and kept all the money for themselves.
There are a lot of famous characters and places in the Robin Hood stories: Friar Tuck, Maid Marian, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Sherwood Forest. It’s pretty amazing that after hundreds of years, these legendary people and places still exist in books, movies, cartoons, and in our imaginations!
