There are numerous different religions practiced in China today, but the four most common are Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Taoism. Buddhism and Taoism were both brought to China around the first or second century, while Christianity and Islam both arrived around the seventh century.

In addition to these four religions, there are also many others. Many people in China practice “folk religions,” which are regional and focus a lot on the local people of a certain area. Most “folk religions” incorporate parts of Taoism and Buddhism.

Lots of people in China also practice no specific religion. Many traditions and cultural practices come from China’s very long history, which are very deeply rooted in the country’s people and identity!
