What kinds of candy are eaten around the world?

Not every country has the same sweet tooth that the United States has! Many of the candies manufactured in America tend to be very, very sweet because they are primarily made of sugar.

In China, lots of people prefer the sweetness and flavors of a candy to come from natural ingredients, so they may eat pickled, spiced, or preserved fruits that are sprinkled with sugar or sour-tasting powders. Rice-based candies are popular in Asia, too.

In India, many candies are milk-based. They might be soaked in a sweet syrup or mixed with sugar before they are heated. Dulche de leche, a popular treat in Central and South America, is also made with sweetened milk.

Some countries sell a lot of jelly-like candies. Gummy bears are popular in Germany. Turkish Delight is a Middle Eastern candy that has a jellied texture and a slightly sweet flavor. Other Middle Eastern desserts and candies are flavored with honey and sprinkled with nuts.

Still, there are some types of candy that almost everyone seems to like. Chocolate is pretty popular all around the world!
