What is trust? |
by Kate Simmons >> more about the author

Sometimes trust means forgiving others when they've hurt our feelings. Trust can mean accepting an apology when someone makes a mistake and deserves a second chance.
Besides trusting in people, you may trust in a feeling, such as the love that develops for a new sibling or pet. People also trust in ideas, like the notion that things will work out for the best, or the belief that hard work helps us to achieve our goals.

What are some other ways you can be a trustworthy friend and family member? For example, following through on your promises, telling the truth, and being a good listener are a few ways to show others you are an honest person who cares. To help you brainstorm, think about the people you trust and what makes them trustworthy to you!
“I trust you.” Has anyone ever said these words to you? Maybe you’ve said them to a friend or family member! When we trust others, we have faith that they are being honest with us, that they have our best interest at heart, and that they will not let us down. The people we trust are the people on which we can depend.
Who are some of the people you trust? Do you put your trust in good friends, parents, and brothers and sisters? Perhaps you trust your teacher, or community helpers, such as firemen. Some feel that trust should be earned, meaning that as others prove they are honest and care about us, we trust them more and more.
Can you think of any ways to show trust? Following the rules, being honest, and doing what we say we’re going to do are three ways to show others that WE are trustworthy!
