by Carly Schuna >> more about the author
The White House is where the President of the United States and his or her family members live while the President serves the country. It is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., the United States capital. The first President of the United States, George Washington, worked with a city planner and an architect to establish plans for the house. The first President to live there was John Adams, who moved in to the house in 1800, when it was almost finished.
The White House is very large. It is six stories tall and has a total of 132 rooms. Thirty-five of them are bathrooms. The house also has a running track, tennis court, bowling alley, swimming pool, and small movie theater.
