What is the slowest animal?

How slow can you go? If you were a sloth, the answer would be “pretty slowly”!

When it comes to mammals, the sloth is considered the slowest creature around. Not only do sloths sleep for the majority of most days, but when they are awake, they tend to stay pretty well put. Sloths primarily live in trees and, when climbing, only move at only about six feet per minute – not very fast at all!

Sloths are known for their big toes (which look more like claws), which allow them to grip tightly onto trees and branches. They spend very little time on the ground, because these big claw-like toes make it very hard for them to get around on land. In fact, sloths spend so much time in trees that they tend to eat, sleep, and even give birth to their young, all while hanging from the tree-tops!

Slow motion!

Have you ever seen people on TV or in a movie who were moving in “slow-motion”? When someone moves in slow-motion it usually means they break down the movement of a task (like walking) into little bits of much smaller movement, allowing every moment of the process to take much longer than it normally would!

Try walking across the room in your own special “slow-motion”! Does it take a long time? Do you find that it’s kind of fun and silly, or kind of frustrating because you’d rather make it all the way across the room in less time!?
