Did you know that you can try to make your very own soy milk at home?? See if you can find some recipes for making your own soy milk at home, and then ask the grown-ups in your family to help you give it a try!
Do a taste test where you offer members of your family a sip of regular milk, a sip of soy milk from the store, and a sip of your own home-made soy milk! Can they tell the difference between which drink was which? Which one is the favorite?? Is making soy milk SOY much fun??!
You might have seen lots of soy products in grocery stores, restaurants, or even your own home! So what exactly is it, and where does it come from??
Products made from soy come from the soybean, which is a type of bean (legume) just like lentils or peas! Soy has been used in Asia for thousands of years, and today is also a very important crop in many other places around the world, including the U.S. Soy is popular for lots of reasons, including being affordable and providing a healthy serving of protein!
Soy is often used to make other products such as tempeh (fermented soybeans), miso (soybean paste), and tofu (soybean curd). Although these might sound kind of strange, they're actually very tasty! You might have even eaten them before without knowing what they were! Soy is also often used to make dairy alternatives like soy milk, soy cheeses, and more!
