Did you know that billions and billions of emails are sent every single day? It’s true!
An email is a message sent from one person to another using signals between computers, cell phones, or other similar devices. The word email came about as an abbreviation for “electronic mail,” since email provided a computerized, electronic version of paper postal mail.
Emails today can be made up of many different things. An email can contain words of text (like a letter or a short note) as well as pictures, videos, links to pages on the Internet, and file attachments like documents and spreadsheets. Email lets people send things like this to each other instantaneously! Whereas people used to wait days, weeks, or even months to receive things like letters, pictures, and videos, email let’s us share them right away!
Write a letter!
Because email is so fast, many people use the postal mail less often than before. But getting letters in the mailbox can be lots of fun!
Have a grown-up help you write a nice letter for you to send to someone in the mail. Talk about some neat things you've done lately and draw pictures, too! Ask if that person will write you back, too, so that you can get a fun letter in the mail also!
