Succulent succulents!
There are probably some very specific qualities you think of when you describe plants: Leaves, stems, trunks, branches, green colors… But if you’ve ever come across a succulent, then you’ve noticed that some plants can look very different!
Succulent plants are mostly plants that live in very dry places where there isn’t a lot of water. Because of this, succulents have special features that help them to store the water they need! For example, many succulents are coated in a waxy substance that helps them retain (keep) water. Succulents are also built to expose less of themselves to the sun; unlike trees and plants that branch out widely towards the sun, succulents are compact.
One succulent plant you might already be familiar with is the cactus! Another succulent plant you’ve probably seen or heard of is jade!
