What is a pimple? |
Your skin is full of tiny little holes called "pores" that are connected to glands that produce oil. This oil is necessary to keep your skin soft, but sometimes your pores become blocked — by dirt, sweat, or dead skin cells — and that oil has nowhere to go! When this happen, your body sends a special bacteria to get rid of the blockage. This leads to a small infection, as the bacteria attacks the blockage, and that infection is what we call a pimple.
Pimples often occur on the face because that's where most of the body's oil glands are located, but they can also appear on the back or chest as well. Some people are embarrassed by pimples because there is no easy way to hide them, but they're not harmful in any other way.
You can get rid of pimples by making sure to wash up every night, especially if you have been running around or playing outside!
