Some people believe that ghosts are real, but there isn't scientific proof that ghosts exist. Many people don't believe in them at all.

To people that believe in ghosts, a ghost is the spirit of a person who was once alive.  They believe that even though a person's body stopped living, a part of that person still exists. Some people call this a "soul."  A person's body is a physical thing. You can touch it. The soul or spirit is a person's thoughts and energy—things that can't be touched.

A ghost is a person's spirit that shows up on Earth after a person dies. It may look just like the person.  It may look like a floating sheet! People have imagined all sorts of types of ghosts—friendly and scary ones. They may not be real, but they do make for good stories!

A Friendly Ghost

Have you ever heard or told a ghost story? They're usually scary and people tell them around campfires.  But there is no rule that ghosts have to be scary.  They can be whatever you imagine.  Try telling the story of a friendly ghost.  It might not scare people, but you may get a few smiles!
