When something is conserved, it means we prevent unnecessary loss or waste of it. The word is used a lot to refer to the environment. Can you think of a few examples? When we buy products made from recycled paper, we’re helping to conserve trees. When we protect the special habitats of certain animals or plants, we’re conserving nature. Conservation is like saving something or using it wisely.
There are lots of ways that you can help conserve! Recycling glass, plastic, aluminum, paper, and anything else you can is one great example. Reusing containers and printing on the back of paper are also good examples. Using less in the first place is another great way! Have you ever thought about whether or not you’d notice the difference if you used one less square of toilet paper in the bathroom, or one less napkin at lunchtime? Reducing is a form of conservation too!
