What does a singer do? |

If you’re interested in being a singer, joining a choir is a great way to perform with a group and learn more about music! For example, joining the school choir can give students opportunities to learn to read music and become more comfortable singing in front of others.

Think about your favorite song… Now think about singing your favorite song in front of a large audience! If you enjoy entertaining others with your voice, then singing may be in your future!
A singer, also known as a vocalist, uses his or her voice to perform songs. Some singers write their own music, while others perform songs written by others. Some sing alone while others perform with a group. Some singers record their music in a studio, and some go on tour through different cities, states and countries! Many singers work in the evenings or on the weekends, performing at times when people who work during the weekday have a break and can enjoy some entertainment.
Being a singer takes a lot of practice. Not only do singers rehearse the songs they perform, but many have voice teachers who help them be the best performers they can be. Now that’s something to sing about!

Music is all around us! There are great singers on television, in
musical groups that perform concerts, and at local restaurants, to name a
few! The next time you have a chance to watch a singer perform, take
some time to notice the singer’s strengths:
What type of music does the singer enjoy performing?
If
the singer does not play an instrument, does he or she move around the
stage while performing? How does he or she express the feelings in the
song? Does the singer sway from side to side or move his or her arms?
Does the singer change the volume of his or her voice at times (for example, going from loud to soft)?
What is your favorite song the singer performs?
Enjoy the music! Maybe you’ll be inspired to do some singing of your own!
