What are chopsticks?

Chopsticks are a utensil used for eating, just like a fork, knife and spoon! The two sticks are usually smaller at one end than the other, and are often made from wood, metal, or plastic.

People in certain countries have been using chopsticks for thousands of years. They are most commonly used in countries in Asia such as China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand and are used by billions of people!

Most historians think the reason chopsticks became popular was that knives were no longer needed at the table when cooking food that was chopped into small, bite-size pieces became necessary in order to conserve fuel, since the small pieces of food cook faster. – While you might find chopsticks difficult to use, enough practice can actually make it just as simple as a fork or a spoon!

Chopsticks – A How To Guide

If you’d like use chopsticks, see if you can get a pair to keep at home and practice! It might not be easy the first few times, but with more and more practice, you’ll most likely get better and better!

1. Place the first chopstick so that it’s resting on the tip of your fourth finger and in the gap between your thumb and index finger. This chopstick doesn’t need to move while you’re picking up food.

2. Put the other chopstick on top, between the tips of your thumb, index, and middle finger. Use the base of your index finger to keep it steady.

3. In order to eat, keep the bottom chopstick still and move the top chopstick back and forth!

Once you’re a Chopsticks Master, teach a friend how to use them. Then, when you’re friend is ready, have a contest to see who can eat their peas the fastest using only chopsticks!
