In the middle of every U.S. president’s four-year term, another important batch of elections are held. These elections are known as the midterm elections.

People who vote in the midterm elections elect officials for the House of Representatives, the Senate, State Governors, and more! These different government positions all work together to make decisions and pass laws, many of which affect the whole country. Because the midterm elections mean new people will take office in some places, they often change the balance of opinions in the government, and how laws and bills are passed. That’s why the midterm elections are very important!
