Is it true that no two snowflakes are alike?

Have you ever heard that no two snowflakes can be identical?? Maybe you’ve seen for yourself on a really snowy day that every single snowflake really is unique!

Most experts who have studied snowflakes agree that, for all intents and purposes, it is true that no two snowflakes are alike! While the possibility that two snowflakes could be exactly identical does exist, it’s so slim a chance that it would probably never happen. – Snowflakes grow, form, and change as they fall from the sky, so there are many factors that can affect the way they end up, such as wind, temperature changes, and dust that a snowflake encounters. Therefore, even if two snowflakes of the very same size fall at the exact same time and the exact same speed, they would still almost certainly end up different in shape – one could come across some dust or a bit of wind that the other doesn’t bump into! And since snowflakes are very delicate, even the slightest puff of wind could make a really big difference!

Of course, when snowflakes are small it might be hard to tell them apart from one another, so you might end up seeing two snowflakes who look similar. But even though they might seem alike, snowflakes are just like people: every single one is unique!
