Have you ever noticed that every time you open the refrigerator door there is a light on, ready to help you find what you want to eat?? Who turns on that light every single time you open the door? Or is the light just always on, even when the door is closed??

The answer is that the mysterious little light inside your refrigerator is not always on – it turns off when you close the door and comes back on again when you open it! But although it might seem like a tiny person must be living inside the fridge and turning on and off that light for you, the truth is that there’s a button pressed by your refrigerator’s door which controls whether the light goes on or off!

Have a grown-up help you find the little “button” inside of your fridge. When the door opens and the button pops out, the light comes on! But when the door closes and pushes the button back in, the light goes off again! – Try pushing it in with your finger to see for yourself!

What would be difficult about living without a fridge? How do you think it would change the way you eat and buy groceries??
