How did a triceratops use its horns?

The triceratops is a dinosaur that gets its name from its most recognized features: the three big horns on its head.  One of the horns was on its nose, much like a rhinoceros! The other two horns were much bigger and they stuck out above each of the triceratops’ eyes.

A triceratops used its horns for protection.  This dinosaur was a plant-eater, but it needed to be able to fight off any meat-eaters that tried to attack!  They were probably very successful because triceratopses were some of the most common dinosaurs on the planet about 65 million years ago.

Dino Differences!

Triceratops is most well known for its horns. What are other dinosaurs known for? What is the first thing you picture when you think of a brachiosaurus? What about a stegosaurus?

Try drawing each of these three plant-eating dinosaurs.  What do they have in common? Hint: they all walk on the same number of legs.  What are the differences? What makes these dinosaurs easy to recognize?

Check out the dinosaur gallery link below to see what these dinosaurs looked like.
