All About the U.S. Government! |
You’re probably used to
following rules in your home and your classroom. Can you think what it would be
like if there were no rules? It might sound like fun, but it would also
probably get difficult really quickly. Without rules, a classmate who steals
from another could get away with it, and a house where no one enforces chores
would become hard to live in after only a short time. Rules help us to keep
order, and having a person or system to oversee what needs to be done provides
us with services we need.
Our country’s government and political system basically works this same way! The purpose of government is to keep order among people and to provide us with things we need. People such as police and firefighters protect us and help keep us safe. Services like sewers, roads, schools, and libraries give us the health, safety, and knowledge we need to lead happy lives. – It’s the leaders and special departments of our government that provide us with all of these things!
